Not Just Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood

Picture
A generation of kids grew up wishing they could live in Mr. Roger’s neighborhood. For many, the days of friendship, imagination, and kindness reflected in nearly 33 years of episodes is a distant memory. But when Jesus moved into our neighborhood, He intended to make neighborhood more than a TV fantasy. He wanted it to become a kingdom reality!

3. Restores Community

MAY 27--It is not wrong for us to find comfort in relationships that are safe and meaningful. In fact, we need places of love and affirmation that help to heal our wounds and restore our hearts. Those relationships are good
and healthy...unless they become our reason or even our excuse for not reaching out to others. Jesus left perfect relationship to bring healing to our broken world. Maybe it is time for us to understand how to build on what we have to bring love and health to those who are still looking for hope.
  1. What truths about God existing in community are meaningful to you?
  2. What does God’s community teach you about they way you engage in community with others?
  3. What are some of the ways that self-promotion and selfishness are most evident in you? In our community?
  4. What are some ways that God might be calling you to bring about transformation through serving?

2. An Atmosphere of Giving

MAY 20--In a world that is marked by wants and wishes, lotteries and casinos, and he-with-the-most-toys-is-most-blessed mindsets, the words and values of Jesus can seem old-fashioned and distant. But when Jesus moved into our neighborhood, He came bringing an atmosphere of giving. In fact, He taught us that in being servants and giving to the needs of others, we
find ourselves the most rich, blessed, and fulfilled.
  • Describe the ways your life is characterized by serving. What are gifts has God given you?
  • How are you using what God has given you to live out your purpose in life?
  • Does your generosity stretch your faith and allow you to see God's provision through your generosity?

1. When Jesus Moves In

MAY 13--The arrival of Jesus into our world was a transformational moment that was destined to change eternity. But when Jesus went home, He left us behind in our neighborhoods to live like He did and carry out the purpose He began.
  1. Who is your life all about?
  2. In what ways have you truly moved into your neighborhood?
  3. How is your neighborhood improved by your presence?
  4. What are some ways you could intentionally improve your neighborhood?
