Be THE CHURCH

What is church? Is it a building? Is it an organization that makes decisions and manages membership? Is it a meeting we attend? Some of the most common ways we define church reflect things we do that may not be essential at all. Can you be a church without a building? Can you be a church without being a corporation? Can you be a church without chairs, music, and a preacher up front? Join us as we set aside our focus on some of the "stuff" we call church and explore what it means to "Be the Church".

6. making movement

August 4 -- Its always easiest to say that what we are doing is good enough. But after a couple decades of decline, is it really okay for the church to continue to say that what we are doing is okay? Maybe it is time to make a move toward movement!

  • What is God saying to you?
  • What will you do?

5. rhythms for rebels

July 28 -- Being the Church in today's world will likely require a rejection of some very accepted and celebrated ways of living that we find in our society.  In other words, we have to be willing to be REBELS in order to live with the Great Commission as our life's mission.  In this message, we look at how Jesus calls those who follow Him to re-orient their lives around His Mission, and what that might look like for us in our daily lives.
  • What is God saying to you?
  • What will you do?

4. life in four spaces

July 21 -- Life is best lived when we integrate everything into a unified whole. For some reason we have created a dualistic life view about church. Church is an event we attend, or some programs in which we participate. That is one part of life. What we do outside of that event is the rest of life. But church isn't an event, but a people all related together. That means we connect to church with our whole life in a variety of different ways. Join us as we explore the spaces that we use to connect our lives to being the church!
  • What is God saying to you?
  • What will you do?

3. Demystifying discipleship

July 14 -- The call of Jesus on our lives to make disciples seems simple and straightforward enough. So why is it so hard for us to do it? Maybe it is because it has been over-complicated and intimidated us. Maybe it is because it requires us to live life in a different way. Whatever the reason, it is time to push back the mist of confusion and get after the main thing that Jesus asked us to do.
  • How does your call to be a disciple maker make you feel?
  • Do you have a hand forward? Hand back?
  • What are some ways you are creating a high invitation/high challenge environment in your relationships? What would need to change to make it more a part of your life rhythm?
  • What is one step you could take to engage more actively in disciple making?

2. second reformation

July 7 -- Some of the simplest things in life can get complicated. Sometimes they are  complicated by our circumstances, sometimes by our desire to get out of doing them, or sometimes it is just because we have forgotten the core truths that we started with. When that happens we need to reform what we are doing and return to the simple start. That's how it is with the mission of the church.
  • What do you view as your commission in life?
  • Who is discipling you?
  • Who are you discipling?
  • What do you need so that you can be more effective in what God has commissioned you to do?

1. The Story

June 30 -- We are all living a story. The story of our lives is being written by the things we love, the choices we make and the things we do. It is the record of how we lived. God's life is a story too. It is the story of who He is and what He thinks about us. It is a story that is meant to intersect our lives and shape  our story.

  •   What do you find most interesting about God's story?
  • In what ways does/doesn't our church demonstrate the story of God?
  • Does the way you live follow the pattern of God's story? Why or why not?
  • What is God saying to you? What will you do about it?
