Somehow as a last minute thing I was asked to be a part of an initial meeting for a
pro-life women's center. After finding out a little bit about it I decided that I was
interested but also that every aspect of this project just screamed out my friend, Andrea.
Andrea is very protective of her time and I didn't think that there was any chance that on
the night of the meeting she would be willing or able to drop everything and Go. But, I
just knew I had to call her. I did, and she was super excited and asked me to pick her
up. On the way to the meeting, she told me that she had been going through a faith
crisis and for two days had been praying non-stop that God would show her a greater
purpose, and what more He could use her for. She said it was such an answer to prayer
when I called that it nearly brought her to tears. Pretty Cool.

Last winter I was doing my quiet time, and the topic for the day in my devotional was
about God's faithfulness. As I completed the study, I felt like God was prompting me to
pray for our baby and his or her birthmother. I had been praying for them over the last
several months, but I felt like I was supposed to pray for them specifically on that day. I
spent a considerable amount of time praying, specifically that God's faithfulness would
be made known to them, like that the adoption of the child would be seen as God's
faithfulness to them and not God's abandonment. I journaled some of my prayer that
day, and that night I told Aaron about it. I also told my accountability group about it. I
hadn't thought much about that prayer until Friday when we got our referral for Mimi.
Mimi was born on January 8th. I checked my journal--I felt that prompting on January 9th,
her first full day of being here. I just think it is so cool how God KNEW --and what a
confirmation to us that she is our child.

As a part of Go, I drive people with cancer to their chemo/radiation appointments when
they have no one else to take them. Tuesday morning on the way to school, the kids
and I prayed that my next passenger, Ruby, would see Jesus in me, that we would have
good conversation, and that maybe she would already be a believer who needed some
encouragement. That appointment passed with just general conversation, but after
Thursday's appointment, I was able to tell her I was praying for her. She responded with
a story of a time in her life when she cried out to God and the Holy Spirit gave her
immediate relief from her anxiety, "like a wave of water washing over me." The
conversation served as a reminder to her that God is just as present for her now as he
was then. Go, God!

I've loved Usborne books since I first read There's A Mouse About The House! I wanted to
start selling by Christmas 2007, but then we moved to Duluth, far from friends and family.
This May, during a conversation with a fellow Usborne-book lover, we talked about my
son helping me sell the books. That all-familiar tugging came on strong. The time to start
selling felt close. Then Anchor Point Church announced their Art in the Park project for
August—I wanted to be a part of that with these books.
I began watching the monthly special on starter kits. They generally cost $200. May's kit
included the ten top-selling books and three months of the e-commerce website, but I
wanted six months. June's kit was nice too, with more books for the same price—but still
only three months of the website. I waited. There had to be a kit soon with six months.
Last Friday, I was at work when my cell phone gave the “voicemail” ring. I checked the
message in case it was from my son’s caretaker. Instead, it was from my Usborne-selling
friend. She’d found out about the July kit: it was huge and perfect and HALF PRICE!
I cheered, put the phone in my pocket, and said, “Now I just need a hundred dollars.” My
boss was curious, so I explained the story.
“Do you think you can really sell them?” She asked.
“Yes! These books sell themselves!”
She handed me $100. “I know you’ll pay me back.”
In a matter of moments our window had been opened and financed! Thank you, God, for
the open window and for right timing. You always know just how to bless me. May I bring
glory to Your name selling Usborne books.

Recently, we took the whole family to the Newsboys concert at DTE Energy Center, a big
hillside venue. In my day, it was called Pine Knob. When I attended rock concerts there as
a young person, I wasn’t singing God’s praises with my friends—I was usually dancing and
drinking with my friends and hoping we could all get home okay and not get caught. But
now, we are trying to raise our kids right, to help them avoid the mistakes we made. I often
wonder how in the world I’m going to teach the kids about God’s love—I feel so ill-
equipped. Then times like this concert come along.
We were expecting it to be a bit cheesy or Kumbaya-ish, not a “real” concert. As it turned
out, it was a GREAT show! The Newsboys’ first song was “Shine,” and mirror confetti
exploded all over the stage.
Later, as the lead singer shared his testimony, tears streamed down my ten-year-old son’
s face. I asked him why; he said the things the singer talked about reminded him of his
own life. Then the Newsboys sang “Blessed Be the Name” and “He Reigns.” My son
continued to be really emotional, which made ME really emotional.
It’s always a wonder when you see your child touched by strong emotion. It’s especially
powerful when you see your child being touched by God. You realize he isn’t actually
YOUR child—he’s God’s. It was almost as if God was trying to tell me, “You brought him
here, but he’s mine. You don’t know what you’re doing, but I do. Trust me.”
